I’ve only been to Dubai and always on the way to or back from somewhere else.  It’s a great stopover or departure point and Emirates is one of the best airlines I’ve flown so I’m always happy to go via Dubai.  Culturally there is not a great deal there, though the shopping is good (if that’s your thing) and you can easily get out into the desert.

How: Flying in and out with Emirates, getting around by taxi or boat (where applicable)

Weather: hot and dry. The winter is cooler (need a jacket in the evenings) and out in the desert the nights are very cold. The summer is roasting!

Food: good restaurants include some great Indian places, otherwise you can get pretty much most international food – except pork

Sights & Activities: xxx museum – a great insight into Arab culture, a desert jeep safari was quite fun, indoor skiing on real snow (random but fun)
