I’ve been to Kenya twice. Once as part of a family safari holiday and the other as the starting point of my African overland trip. I didn’t much care for Nairobi, though as I was traveling alone I was a little nervous and didn’t explore much by myself. I did a day safari and saw some wildlife. With my family we spent a week in an extremely nice hotel on the Kenyan coast (the name escapes me now). I can’t say that I have really ‘seen’ or experienced Kenya.
When: Christmas 1996, June 1998
Where: Nairobi, the coast
Who: 1996 with my parents & siblings, 1998 starting point for the overland truck trip
How: 1996 luxury holiday with Abercrombie & Kent, we flew into Tanzania, but out of Nairobi, 1998: I flew into Nairobi from London then joined the overland tour with Truck Africa.
Weather: In December it was dry, warm, sunny, July was overcast, but overly cold
Food: I don’t know how much ‘local’ food I had. At the luxury resort what I remember was the amazing buffet breakfast with 3 kinds of passion fruit (one of my favourite fruits)
Highlights: wildlife watching, though it can get pretty crowded.
