I first visited Indonesia on my first backpacking trip in my gap year.  I have since gone back to Bali, just once.  I look forward to returning to Indonesia and exploring more of it. What I saw I really enjoyed, except for Jakarta, which I thought was a horrible place and would not spend time there again.

How: In 1994 we flew into Jakarta and out of Denpasar on Bali, in 2006 we flew in and out of Bali, but had to change planes in Jakarta.

Weather: Hot and sunny year round, the dry season is June – August making it the perfect place for summer holiday travel.

Food: Satay, rice, satay, gado gado, satay

Sights: Yogyakarta: the ruined temples of Prambanan, the old palace and the amazing Buddhist temple mountain of Borobudur, Bali: the cultural dances in Ubud, batik paintings
